Albinus on Anatomy First Edition Hardback Book 1979 with Superb Large Print Plates.

Bernard Siegfried Albinus was the greatest anatomist of the early 18th century. Each of his engravings are beautiful works of art as well as being scientifically anatomically correct.

This classic vintage book on anatomy has full size plates, authentic to original 18th Century Illustrations. It also includes an account of Albinus' work in the form of an Essay by Terence Coyle.

The publication of this book in 1979 was the first time that this important work was published in one volume for over 2 centuries.

The plates are superb, this is a very scarce book in the original hardback first Edition from 1979. The book includes all 80 of Albinus's plates plus additional anatomical illustrations.

For the interest of human anatomy each plate is accompanied on the facing page by a matching diagram outline drawing that names and locates the bones or muscles on the opposite page.

An essential and iconic text for anyone interested in Human Anatomy perfect for students or anyone who draws the human figure or just an iconic book to have on your coffee table!

Kittys Reader Notes & Book Snippet

The plates were taken directly from the huge dusty old volumes of Albinus' ancient copperplate engravings in the Rare Book Room of the New York Academy of Medicine.

Images were take from the works:

Tabulae Sceleti et Musculorum Corporis Humani ( Tables of the Skeleton and Muscles of the Human Body).

And Tabulae Ossium Humanorum (Tables of the Human Bones).

Because of the beauty and importance of the illustrations in these semantic works it was decided to publish them in this book form as 'Albinus on Anatomy'.

Author Bio & Publication

Bernard Siegfried Albinus:

Bernard Siegfried Albinus (1697-1770) was a prominent Dutch anatomist who made significant contributions to the field of anatomy during the 18th century. He was born in Frankfurt, Germany, and studied medicine at the University of Leiden in the Netherlands, where he later became a professor of anatomy.

Albinus is known for his detailed anatomical illustrations, which were considered some of the best of his time. He produced a number of important works, including "Tabulae Sceleti et Musculorum Corporis Humani," a series of engravings that depicted the human skeleton and muscles in detail. He also wrote "Historia Musculorum Hominis," which provided a comprehensive overview of human muscle anatomy.

In addition to his contributions to anatomical knowledge, Albinus was also a skilled teacher and was known for his ability to make complex anatomical concepts accessible to his students. He was highly respected in his field and was elected to the Royal Society in London and the Royal Academy of Sciences in Paris.
