The Children's Book of Celtic Stories by Elizabeth W. Grierson, London 1908.

If you are interested in Celtic, Scottish and Irish history and folklore, this scarce First Edition of this wonderful antique Children's book from 1908 is a pleasing and very entertaining collection of Celtic Myth and Legend collected together with a touch of whimsy by Elizabeth W. Grierson. Either for your own interest or to share the tales with your children or grandchildren it is important to keep all these wonderful ancient myths and legends alive.

Stories include folk tales about faeries, giants, warriors and strong men, kings and queens and princesses and pixies. A lovely journey through Irish and Scottish Celtic fairy tales, myth and legend with all the wonderful old Celtic names such as Finola and Aed, Fiera and Conn.

To add to your enjoyment this lovely old book is beautifully illustrated with 12 full colour lithographic plates beautifully done and very reminiscent of Pre-Raphaelite paintings. All illustrations are present with no plates missing. The pages are deckle edged giving the book a real sense of age although slightly timeworn it is as sturdy and sound as the bearded Celtic Warrior on the front cover.

A lovely handsome and collectable first edition Antique Children's book now well over a century old with its gilt and coloured pictorial cloth binding featuring the Celt on his White Steed and a Celtic maiden playing a harp to the spine. A very  attractive addition to your collection of rare and decorative vintage or antique books that look so wonderful on your bookshelf.

A lovely little piece of literary history. The 12 pages of ads to the rear of the book interestingly even include a line advert for this book which originally retailed at the grand sum of Six Shillings.

*The book has the original very tiny (less than an inch) antique booksellers label to the inner board for 'W & J Kennedy booksellers, Hawick'. Hawick, near the Scottish borders was the home of the author Elizabeth Grierson and a neat gift inscription for Xmas 1908.

This is fresh from the attic in very good vintage condition .

Robust condition. Boards holding well and generally in very good condition with minor age wear.

No loose or missing pages or illustrations.

Small and neat gift inscription on the first free endpaper dated Christmas 1908.

Pages and illustrations are all bright and firm.

The pages to the book would have needed opening with a paper knife when the book was new resulting in the deckle edge. A few scattered light marks to the pages and some tanning.

The slightest shelf wear, a little bit of dust staining to the spine, boards and outer text block. Top edge gilt but dulled somewhat with age.

Titles are all good and spine is in good condition too.

Overall very good indeed for an antique Children's book from the early 1900's.
