The Collector by John Fowles was his first masterpiece novel.

This is a dark tale of destructive obsession and a battle of wills between a nondescript clerk and his fixation upon a young woman.

The novel is utterly convincing, haunting and memorable as the story unfolds and was released to universal acclaim.

An intelligent and emotionally erudite novel that makes a rich experiential read. This is a lovely copy of the First Edition of this book in Pan Paperback published in 1989.

A very readable copy of a marvellous book and iconic piece of literature of 1960's England.

Kittys Notes & Book Snippet

This book by John Fowles was unanimously praised upon release:

"A singularly skilled first novel, original in its conception and unnervingly acute in its observation of an obsession. It is the story of a kidnapping - a nutty clerk captures and holds the art student he has become fixated upon, and there follows a fiendish interplay of sanity and insanity, the contest of minds without a meeting point."...

"More important than its brilliant account of a psycopathic obsession is its statement about the condition of attachment...an artist of great imaginative power. "

This was a seminal book in the crime and psychological genre and really should be on everyone's reading list. A perfect study of total obsession.
