Collectable First Edition of this 1970s favourite children's story book the "Gift Book of Hans Christian Andersen Fairy Tales" by Dean first published in 1975 and beautifully illustrated by Janet & Anne Grahame Johnstone.
Did you know that Hans Christian Andersen was famous for Papercuts, a popular hobby in the Victorian Era that is why this wonderful old 1970's children's fairytale book of all the well loved Hans Andersen fairytales, so exquisitely illustrated by the sisters Janet and Anne Grahame Johnston - has the beautiful end paper design featuring a delightful traditional papercut that would be a fun project to make.
And that's before you even fully open the book and see all the wonderful 1970s' style illustrations in glorious colour on the large pages that make this vintage picture book an absolute delight for bedtime stories.
The book contains some of the best Hans Christian Andersen fairy stories, The Steadfast Tin Soldier, Thumbelina and The Little Match Girl along with a few of his lesser known tales.
The book is nearly 50 years old and a little worn round the edges of the spine, with a few light marks to the cover, a rubbed out pencil mark to across one page and some general wear and tear including a small tear to the rear endpaper, hence the price.
But it is a scarce first edition of this popular children's book of the 1970's era and overall very good condition still with bright firm pages and a pleasure to read and enjoy. Made so charming with all the whimsical old children's book illustrations by the talented Johnstone sisters.
Glorious double page illustration of Thumbelina with the Field Mouse and Mole.
A sweet bedtime story book and a collectable old children's book that would make a lovely gift for someone or most of all for yourself. Especially if you had this treasured vintage fairy tale book as a child.

Kitty's Notes:
Hans Christian Andersen's old fairy tales such as Thumbelina and The Steadfast Tin Soldier are some of the sweetest fairy tales written for children that are still popular today.
This lovely large children's picture book charmingly illustrated by Janet and Anne Grahame Johnston is a child friendly version of some of these tales that are actually quite tearjerking especially The Litte Match Girl (so you can use discretion when reading to young children).
The magical illustrations are the highlight of what makes this collectable 1970's children's book so very lovely.
Book Excerpt from "Hans Andersen's Fairy Tales"
"Once upon a time there was a young woman who longed for a tiny child, but she wished in vain. So she went to an od witch woman and told her: 'I have the greatest longing to have a little child of my own. Please help me.'
'Ah if you want your dream to come true,' said the sorceress, 'take this grain of barley. It's not the type the peasant sows in his field or the sort you feed to the chickens. Sow it in a flowerpot, tend it and just see what happens!'
'Oh, many, many thanks!' cried the young woman, and she gave the witch a silver shilling...
