Harold the Last of the Saxon Kings Antique Book 1900s Beautiful Decorative Antique Book
In stock
Harold the Last of the Saxon Kings Antique Book circa 1900.
This thrilling historical tale about the Saxon King Harold is an attractively bound and beautifully decorative antique book. Full of character to add to your bookshelf.
The decorative spine is embossed with tiny gilt Tudor style roses and leaves, in an Arts and Crafts Trellis Design typical of the Edwardian Era bindings in smaller pocket sized format.
The novel is by Lord Lytton, Sir Edward Bulwer Lytton who was a famed novelist in the Victorian Era and who was also a Baron writing rip-roaring historical adventures rich in mystery and romance. Somewhat florid in prose and quaint compared to the language we tend to use today but despite that generally entertaining stories.
Bulwer Lytton is also famed for being the originator of many famous sayings such as "The pen is mightier than the sword!", "the great unwashed", and for starting his book with the now trite "It was a dark and stormy night...".
A great antique book that also makes a super decorative item and would fit in perfectly with a collection of old books for interior design.
But why not give it a read Bulwer-Lytton might surprise you after all.

Author Bio & Publication
Sir Edward George Bulwer-Lytton.
Bulwer-Lytton's novel Paul Clifford written in 1830 begins with “It was a dark and stormy night.”
In his day he was as famous as Dickens although many of his gripping books are now largely forgotten by most - other than for the mocking Bulwer Lytton Fiction Contest wherein entries must begin with the previously quoted sentence.
