First Edition Puffin Paperback Johnny Tigerskin by Ursula Moray Williams.

1960's Puffin Paperback for children with the bizarre story of adventures related to a Tigerskin rug written in the 1960's when some of these antique things survived still in people's homes from the Victorian Era. A lot more entertaining than it sounds it is a fun romp involving villains, peril and friendship winning out in the end.

Mr Bellamy, newly retired with a pension moves into Lower Apple Street with Mrs Flossey and their shaggy old Tigerskin Rug called 'Johnnie'. Mr Bellamy has a pair of nephews called James and Biffy who both love the funny old rug.

Their friend Sarah seems to get overly attached to the rug - steals it after a trip at the zoo much to the annoyance of the boys and lots of fun and capers ensue!

If this wacky storyline isn't enough Johnnie Tigerskin becomes the means of foiling a burglar at the Sub Post Office managed by Mrs Flossie.

A funny and quaint little Children's story typical of the diverse storylines of the 1960's when children's fiction suddenly got a lot more exciting and quirky!

An amusing little story book that has been all but forgotten these days but makes a very heart-warming read about friendship, loyalty and right and wrong and your children are sure to enjoy it.

First Edition as a Puffin Paperback publication date 1969.

If you read this book and loved it as child why not share it with your children.

Kitty's Reader Notes & Book Snippet

If you want a change from witches and wizards, fairies or slimy monsters this endearing and funny little children's book about a slightly moth-eared old Tigerskin Rug that the children learn to love and the unexpected adventures that ensue.

It is an atmospheric story that fully evokes the lifestyle and christmas's of the 1960's and a world that is different to today's.

Children use strange things like Tape Recorders a gadget that would be unheard of to your children.

Equally nobody would be likely to have a Tigerskin rug in their home now, however old!

That doesn't matter the story is thrilling and heartwarming for children and teaches values of loyalty and friendship and not judging people too hastily.

Please remember this vintage book has been loved before and is not new condition is graded taking this into consideration.

Author Bio & Publication

Ursula Moray Williams 1911 - 2006 wrote around seventy delightful children's books. Her most well known is probably Gobbolino the Witch's Cat and Adventures of the Brave Little Wooden Horse that she wrote whilst she was pregnant expecting her first child.

Fortunately she was friends with Puffin Editor Kaye Webb a serendipity which undoubtedly gave her a foot up the ladder to being recognised as an author and publication of her books.

She worked with famous illustrators such as Shirley Hughes, Faith Jaques and Edward Ardizzone. Her books soon proved themselves to be Children's Classics.

In her personal life she was a devout Christian, the values of love, kindness and friendship shine through her books. Far from boring she was also famed for her lively parties and fun sense of humour.
