Lola Montez Her Life & Conquests by James Morton, biography.

The enthralling True Life story of the Irish woman Eliza Gilbert, who became the most notorious adventuress of her era. Digging beneath the legends and notoriety Morton reveals the truth about this dazzling beauty that captured an entire generation culminating in the scandalous destruction of a member of the aristocracy.

Recreating herself as Lola she fearlessly travelled the world, an incarnation of feminism. Everywhere she went however, sensation and scandal soon followed.

A dancer and actress of limited talent she nonetheless used those talents to their limits!

In this superb Biography James Morton offers up thorough research to cast a light upon the life of this fascinating historical character.

Richly illustrated and an utterly irresistible read. Reminding us that times change but human nature never does.

Kittys Reader Notes

Born Eliza Gilbert in 1821, in Sligo, Ireland the daughter of an English Army Officer and a Milliner. She eloped with her first husband at the age of fifteen and ended up in India where she metamorphosed into 'Lola Montez' capitalizing upon the magnetic appeal she had to men including nobility and celebrities of the Day.

Her lovers included Franz Liszt the composer. One lover was killed in a duel. A fiery tempered woman handy with the whip she even shot at lovers in rage and was involved in one of the greatest scandals of the century the destruction of King Ludwig I of Bavaria.

Lola died at 39, but this book illustrates a life that belies those short years not the least in the number of lovers and certainly in excitement.
