Helen Keller of course was a great pioneer for Disabled People and women in general in the late 19th and Early 20th Century. Suffering from both deafness and blindness (deafblind) she overcame many boundaries that were in place for women of the era by becoming an author, political activist and lecturer and even earning a bachelor's degree. Feats that were unusual for any woman to achieve in this time!

Helen overcame her profound disabilities to achieve this and paved the way for greater acceptance in society of people of similar disabilities.

Although not famously recognised as a Suffragette Helen was instrumental in the Suffragette movement and campaigned passionately for the Women's Rights movement as well as being an ardent socialist. the environment too!
