This 1950's Penguin Paperback was originally Priced at 2'6, Two Shillings and Sixpence. Series 'Penguin Plays' and is of course written as the original Bernard Shaw Pygmalion play script rather than a narrative novel.

If you have only seen Audrey Hepburn in the movie the book makes a lovely nostalgic read and is interesting that it has an epilogue at the end that carries on the story from the play finale.

George Bernard Shaw.
Was born in Dublin, Ireland in 1856 and died at Ayot St. Lawrence in Hertfordshire in 1950.
After originally beginning his career as a novelist he then became a journalist and critic of books and the arts. He was instrumental in the Socialist revival of the 1880's and was a leading figure in the Fabian Society becoming an orator and pamphleteer. He went on to become a serious economist and philosopher publishing major works on both Wagner and Ibsen.
In 1882 Bernard Shaw deciding upon a new path and became a playwright eventually to become an irresistible force in the theatre.
George Bernard Shaw will always be remembered especially for his play 'Pygmalion' and the famous character Eliza Doolittle, later to be performed by the ethereal and effervescent Audrey Hepburn, who made the character entirely her own.

The pictorial card covers are a little rubbed at the corners and slightly frayed at the top of the spine.
Minor chipping to the spine title with overall age tanning and mild foxing to the covers mainly noticeable on the interior.
No foxing to the interior pages just heavily age tanned.
Front hinge straining a little but holding together well.
Original Price of 2/6 (two shillings and sixpence) on front cover.
