Kittys Reader Notes & Book Excerpt

"Accidents' that look like attempted murder !

"Gervase Frant, seventh Earl of St. Erth returns somewhat belatedly to his family seat after the Battle of Waterloo and finds that his relatives do not look kindly upon his homecoming."

"What a pleasure it is to see someone doing something which they are able to do incomparably well. Miss Georgette Heyer, with a novel set in the period of the Regency is a case in point. Her touch is sure, her research meticulous, her sense of time and place and time and atmosphere faultless, and besides all this she is very funny... There are plots and counterplots, a delightfully practical heroine and altogether the novel is a real entertainment, or, in the language of the ton, a divertissment." Contemporary review by Sphere.

Lovely vintage Regency Romance with an interesting mystery slant by the much revered author of classics such as 'These Old Shades', 'The Black Moth', and 'Powder and Patch'.
