The Sign of the Four by Arthur Conan Doyle Classic Sherlock Holmes Detective Novel Vintage Hardback 1959.
Attractive vintage Sherlock Holmes book by Arthur Conan Doyle from the mid 20th century era, 1950s. Set in the foggy streets of Victorian London, 'The Sign of Four' is a classic Holmes adventure, filled with mystery, suspense, and unexpected twists. The fabulous dust jacket shows an iconic Sherlock Holmes minus Deerstalker hat but smoking a Pipe, very much in the spirit of the original illustrations in the Strand. The jacket is by the artist who signed as 'Abbey' which could have been either of the Abbey Brothers (Salomon Van Abbe or Joseph Van Abbe 1883 - 1955) who created jacket art for a lot of early to mid 20th Century Crime Fiction.
The story begins when a young woman named Miss Mary Morstan seeks Holmes' help in solving the strange disappearance of her father years ago and the subsequent mysterious arrival of valuable pearls she receives annually. As Holmes and his loyal sidekick Watson delve into the perplexing case, they uncover a web of deceit, treachery, and long-held secrets. The duo's brilliant deductions and keen observations guide them through a series of puzzling clues, leading them closer to the truth behind the enigmatic "sign of four."
The book in this format was first published by John Murray in 1917 and is a later reprint. Throughout the years the titles of this Sherlock Holmes story have varied between 'The Sign of the Four' and the four word 'The Sign of Four' this book opts for the latter. This novel the second of the Sherlock Holmes novels, as first published in 1890 is of course unabridged just as Arthur Conan Doyle intended it.
This is a lovely collectable book of this classic Sherlock Holmes novel, The Sign of the Four, that comes to you pleasing condition and would make a welcome addition to any collection of vintage Crime Books, especially Sherlock Holmes Books.

'State your case' said he, in brisk, business tones.'"
