The Story of Sylvie and Bruno by Lewis Carroll Classic Antique Children's book dating from 1926.
This fantastical fairy tale by the Alice in Wonderland author Lewis Carroll is presented to you in this charming antique children's book from the 1920's era, about the two fairy children, Sylvie and Bruno and their father the king. Beautifully illustrated throughout by Harry Furniss who worked for Punch magazine, a famous artist of the Victorian Era and Golden Age of Children's book illustration The illustrations are equally as charming as those by John Tenniel for the original Alice in Wonderland books.
The sweet little siblings Sylvie and Bruno weave their way through this enchanting little book and go on their adventures throughout this whimsical and bizarre story by the master of nonsense and fantasy Lewis Carroll. The book is recognised as a triumph of absurdism, full of Lewis Carroll's nonsense rhymes such as 'The Mad Gardener' and a charming chapter detailing a visit to 'Dogland'.
If you are a fan of works by Lewis Carroll this book is a quaint delight. Read in context as a product of the children's literature of the Victorian era, it is quite charming although certainly not the kind of modern day children's book we read today.
It is a classic of its kind and no collection of Lewis Carroll Children's books should be without this charming fairy tale. The twee and whimsical tale can be best understood with an appreciation of the Victorian era as a whole's obsession with the beauty and innocence of childhood and of course Lewis Carroll's sentiments.
With its endearing characters and fantastical landscapes, Sylvie and Bruno sweeps you away into a land of pure imagination, a Victorian dreamscape where talking animals, magical adventures, and heartwarming friendships. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass will always be Carroll's greatest achievements but it would be a shame to let this sweet little book pass you by.
A lovely companion for your vintage Alice in Wonderland books collection

Kittys Reader Notes & Book Snippet
"This book pulled from the two volumes of 'Sylvie and Bruno' & 'Sylvie and Bruno Concluded' contains only the portions about the two fairy children (with the original illustrations) in the words of Lewis Carroll, without any extraneous matter. A few words only have in some places been added or altered, when absolutely necessary to dovetail the different paragraphs together, so as to make the 'story' one consecutive whole.
The humour in this book is so unique and fascinating, that 'The Story of Sylvie and Bruno' is likely to become as popular as the 'Alice' books by the same author."
"Thou delicious Fay -
The guardian of a sprite that lives to tease thee -
Loving in earnest, chiding in play
The merry mocking Bruno! Who sees thee,
Can fail to love thee, Darling, even as I ? -
My sweetest Sylvie, but we must say 'Goodbye ! ' "
This antique children's book by Lewis Carroll first published in 1904, is the 1926 (5th) reprint of that combined first edition.
