The Bird Talisman, An Eastern Tale by Henry Allan Wedgwood. Illustrated by Gwen Raverat.

Unusual vintage fairytale book with Wedgwood Pottery family interest and Darwin family connections to this lovely story about an Indian princess and her magic ring which made her able to talk to the birds.

The story was written by Harry Wedgwood grandson of Josiah Wedgwood of Etruria and first printed as a story in the Family Tutor in 1852.

This Indian Fairytale was so beloved by the children of the Wedgwood and Darwin families that Mrs Darwin had it privately printed for the next generation in a small hardback book.

The book is illustrated by Gwen Raverat the Great Niece of the author who has exquisitely illustrated it with woodblock style pen and ink illustrations. It is a lovely work of fantasy so nearly forgotten as the tale for many years had just lived in the private treasures of the Wedgwood and Darwin families until being published again. This is the Second Edition 1964 hardback still quite scarce with Dust Jacket.
