Worth owning for the psychedelic dust jacket alone with the looming face of Napoleon and the Madame Récamier style image of the Wanton Princess. Kittys Reader Notes

"The lady of the title was Napoleon's favourite sister, Pauline, acknowledged to be the most beautiful and said to be one of the most licentious young women in the Paris of her day.

The story covers the years 1800 to 1805 -- those years when the Grande armee assembled at Boulogne, never ceased to menace England with invasion. It opens with Roger Brook, Prime Minister Pitt's most resourceful secret agent quarrelling with his master. He returns to France and the service of Napoleon, crosses the Alps with him and is present at Marengo. But soon loyalty to Britain sends him to Russia, where he is an unwilling party to the assassination of the mad Czar Paul.

Back in England a fatal-sword thrust results in bitter breach between him and the great love of his life, Georgina, Countess of St. Ermins. Again he seeks distraction abroad, becomes Pauline's lover..."
