Sustainability and the Environment
Our Mission for the Planet
At Kittys Tales we love our planet. We aim to run our business in the most sustainable manner possible. To protect the environment and operate in an eco-conscious way.
We follow our promise of Six key Sustainablity principles to achieve this:
- Respect
- Rescue
- Repair
- Recycle
- Resell
- Reuse
By avoiding a throwaway lifestyle our consumption becomes sustainable.
-
We Respect
Firstly, we respect our planet in everything we do. We are conscious of our carbon footprint and work actively to reduce our carbon footprint on the planet. We are a small business but still feel we can play a worthwhile part in protecting our environment. We walk, bicycle or use public transport wherever possible throughout our daily business. We respect and look after our books. By doing so we prolong their usefulness and prevent them from becoming landfill.
-
We Rescue and Reuse
Kittys Tales' business model is based upon actively rescuing books that might otherwise end up in Landfill. We work with local charities, a network of second-hand and preloved suppliers along with other organisations to salvage books that we feel can still be enjoyed. By recognising their usefulness we can present them back to the secondary market for people to love and read again.
-
Why not Repair?
Just like characters from famous children's books and stories such as Bagpuss, The Wombles and The Borrowers, if we actively care for and repair our items we reduce our consumption and environmental load on the planet. We become more environmentally friendly and live in a more sustainable and eco-conscious manner. At Kittys Tales if we feel a damaged book still has some value we do not discard it rather we find a way to repurpose or resell, preventing it from ending up in landfill.
-
We Resell Ethically
We believe a circular economy is the best way forward for our planet. By extending the life span of products and ethically reselling previously used vintage and antique books and other items we prevent the cycle of over-consumption. We save our trees by reducing the paper production, pollution and manufacturing load required for new books. We actively repair and conserve items preserving them for the enjoyment of future generations. We do not operate in a parasitic manner and recycle everything we can.
Recycle
When we recycle a book it continues to have value and usefulness. We strongly believe in recycling. We donate unwanted items to our favourite animal rescue charity. We use packaging materials that can be recycled whenever we can. In times past people recognised the importance of 'Make do and Mend'. Often, old and used books were gifted time and time again throughout families and became family heirlooms. In the interwar years people realised that our planetary resources were limited. We need to recover that verve and determination to do good for the planet in all we do.
The Restorative and Regenerative Cycle is the way of the natural world and is what we aspire to.
Why not hunt for an old favourite today in our carefully curated vintage book collections.
