First Edition of "The Exploits of Sherlock Holmes" Written by the son of Arthur Conan Doyle in collaboration with John Dickson Carr. Classic Sherlock Holmes Detective Stories Vintage Hardback 1954.

A treat for fans of Arthur Conan Doyle's classic sleuth Sherlock Holmes and the superb detective fiction that hailed a new generation of mastermind detectives in the early 20th century. Here we have an homage to that great mystery writer Conan Doyle penned by his son Adrian Conan Doyle and the master of vintage detective fiction John Dickson Carr.

This excellent first edition contains twelve great stories written perfectly in the tradition of the original classic detective stories featuring our fascinating detective Sherlock working alongside his trusty sidekick Dr. Watson.

The stories are great, the titles are drawn from the unsolved cases mentioned by Watson in the original Sherlock Holmes stories. A super continuation of that golden era of detective fiction. We have great stories such as "The Adventure of the Deptford Horror" and "The Adventure of the Seven Clocks".

The intro states that the authors wished to create stories of the 'old vintage' and to bring back the delicious sensations in the reader of when Holmes exclaims "the game is afoot". They certainly achieved that and this book is a pure delight for any dedicated Sherlock Holmes fan and a very pleasing first edition to treasure as part of a golden era crime collection or an exciting vintage book gift for a new initiate to the genre.

Kittys Notes & Book Snippet

Kittys Notes:

We all know that feeling when we get to the end of the output of a favourite author. We can go back and read the old favourite stories over and over again and sometimes we are lucky enough to get a sequel, prequel or tribute to the original books written by another keen author. Well who more fitting than Arthur Conan Doyle's very own son Adrian to pen these great stories in homage to the great author Arthur Conan Doyle and cunning detective Holmes.

Between Adrian Conan Doyle and the highly popular author of 1950's crime fiction John Dickson Carr they created together this enticing book of twelve new stories about Holmes and Watson's adventures, touchingly based upon references of unsolved cases from the original series of tales.

Definitely well worth a read and a great book to add to your collection with the iconic original dust jacket featuring the great detective Sherlock himself. And don't you just love that sinister spider about to fall on his head!

Extract from "The Exploits of Sherlock Holmes":

"'The Adventure of the Seven Clocks'

I find recorded in my notebook that it was on the afternoon of Wednesday, the 16th of November, 1887, when the attention of my friend Mr. Sherlock Holmes was first drawn to the singular affair of the man who hated clocks.

I have written elsewhere that I had heard only a vague account of this matter, since it occurred shortly after my marriage. Indeed, I have gone so far as to state that my first post-nuptial call on Holmes was in March of the following year. But the case in question was a matter of such extreme delicacy that I trust my readers will forgive its suppression byt one whose pen has ever been guided by discretion rather than sensationalism.

A few weeks following my marriage, then, my wife was obliged to leave London on a matter which concerned Thadeus Sholto and vitally affected our future fortunes. Finding our new home insupportable without her presence, for eight days I returned to the old rooms in Baker Street. Sherlock Holmes made me welcome without question or comment...."
