1920's Alice in Wonderland Lewis Carroll Antique Children's Book Harry Rountree

Isn't 1920's Alice just so sweet with her bobbed hair and this version of the White Rabbit is so much fun.

Harry Rountree's quirky and comic style shows in all the anthropomorphised animals he was so famous for in the early 20th century.

Some very talented little child has whiled away the hours with their paintbrush - very carefully decorating with watercolour some of the line drawn black and white illustrations. And, rather than detracting from the book as is tradition, especially if poorly done these beautiful little watercolour decorations actually add to the charm of this lovely old book making the illustrations leap from the page.

It's so nice to find these old children's books complete as so often they have had the colour plates ripped out of them. I bought a version of this book cheap online not so long ago, and was so disappointed to find some of the colour plates were missing.

This book is totally complete and such a lovely find.

Extract from this Book "Alice in Wonderland":

"After a time she heard a little pattering of white feet in the distance, and she hastily dried her eyes to see what was coming. It was the White Rabbit returning, splendidly dressed with a pair of white kid gloves on one hand and a large fan in the other: he came trotting along in a great hurry, muttering to himself as he came, "Oh! the Duchess, the Duchess! Oh! won't she be savage I kept her waiting!" Alice felt so desperate that she was ready to ask the help of anyone; so , when the Rabbit came near her, she began in a low, timid voice, "If you please, sir---" The Rabbit started violently, dropped the white kid gloves and the fan, and scurried away into the darkness as hard as he could go..."

This antique children's book from the 1920's is in very good robust condition if a little aged in places.

Complete with all colour plates.

The spine is in very good antique conditon not split just rubbed at the top and bottom with titles slightly faded on the yellow cloth.

Interior pages are overall clean and bright with just very light occasional spots of age freckling/foxing.

Endpapers are tanned with a little bit of fraying to the front endpaper at the top.

Exterior of the text block is dust stained with some light foxing.

Edges of front board are rubbed slightly to the extremities but the illustrated front cover is overall good and bright.

No previous owners inscriptions or text graffiti.

Some of the line drawn illustrations have been hand coloured but well done.

Overall a very good antique edition of this collectable "Alice in Wonderland" book.
