Kitty's Reader Notes & Book Snippet

"No one wants share a holiday with strangers, and it's even worse when it means sharing a parent with new stepbrothers and sisters. Peace may come in the end, but you can't see that from the start.

Nicholas and Charlotte Latimer had lived with their mother in the croft at Kilmorah ever since their father was killed 12 years before. It was on the wild west coast of Scotland with no electricity and no tap water but it was the most perfect place in the world.

They knew they ought to be pleased when their mother married an American widower with 4 children but they weren't. They would still have Kilmorah, and their mother of course, but they faced the awfulness of sharing something very precious and then finding that the sharing had turned it into something different.

‘They can't make us get together’, said Nicholas darkly and the Graham's in America were thinking much the same. This was to be the second revolution when they would set on the English and drive them out. Later they all met at Kilmorah. Sometimes there was so much noise from 8 people all talking at once but it sounded like a party, but at other times it was pretty sticky and after one extra frightful row their parents went off on holiday and leaving the children to learn to live together. For readers of 11 and over.”
