"The Life of Charlotte Bronte" by Elizabeth Gaskell, 1907 John Grant Edition.

This lovely Antique Book is a biography of Charlotte Bronte written by Elizabeth Gaskell. Mrs Gaskell was a close friend of Charlotte Bronte and her family, actually knowing them during their lives so was well qualified to write this biography of Charlotte (some believe it was written as defence against her friend's detractors) and it was published shortly after Charlotte's death in 1855.

The biography provides an interesting insight to Charlotte's life from her childhood in Yorkshire, the challenges she had as a woman trying to get published; to her tragic early death at just the age of 38 cutting short the work of a literary genius.

This antique book also includes details about Charlotte's family and friends, as well as her literary works. Mrs Gaskell's biography of Charlotte. was the first major study of her somewhat tumultuous life, and has since become an important source of information about this important female literary figure - Bronte Sister's - life and works.

The book is bound in an attractive moss green cloth. slightly faded, with gilt titles and decoration to the spine. Although well aged being over a century old now, it is a beautiful antique book on our much esteemed female author Charlotte, and a must for any fan of the Bronte Sister's masterpiece novels.

Includes a touching early Newspaper snippet found in the book detailing contents of one of Charlotte's letters that has obviously been in the book a very long time and was probably published contemporarily and within the first few years of the book's print date.

All part of this Antique Book's charming character.
