Author Bio & Publication

Constance Pilgrim

Married her first husband at the age of 34 a Graduate in Egyptology and scholar of English Literature. He died in 1943 whilst working for Naval Intelligence leaving her a widow with two young children.

Constance determined to continue her studies in English Literature at Oxford, eventually remarrying the Reverend Richard Pilgrim who had been a tutor in English Literature until his Ordination.

Constance juggled the many duties expected of a Vicar's wife during the era while at the same time undertaking this thorough research into Jane Austen's life. Her first book on the subject 'Dear Jane' was published in 1971. After her husband's death in 1979 she went on to publish this book.
