Kittys Reader Notes
Born Eliza Gilbert in 1821, in Sligo, Ireland the daughter of an English Army Officer and a Milliner. She eloped with her first husband at the age of fifteen and ended up in India where she metamorphosed into 'Lola Montez' capitalizing upon the magnetic appeal she had to men including nobility and celebrities of the Day.
Her lovers included Franz Liszt the composer. One lover was killed in a duel. A fiery tempered woman handy with the whip she even shot at lovers in rage and was involved in one of the greatest scandals of the century the destruction of King Ludwig I of Bavaria.
Lola died at 39, but this book illustrates a life that belies those short years not the least in the number of lovers and certainly in excitement.
