Mayhem in Greece by Dennis Wheatley Spy Thriller Vintage Hardback Book BCA First Edition Thus 1962

Mayhem in Greece by Dennis Wheatley attractive vintage hardback book by this 20th century master of the thriller genre published by the Book Club Charing Cross Rd., run by the famous London book shop Foyles.

This BCA edition was published simultaneously with the Hutchinson first edition and comes to you in robust condition with the attractive Jacket (reminiscent of the James Bond wrapper designs) by 'Outhill'.

Mayhem in Greece was first published in 1962. The story introduces Robbie Grenn, an endearing and mentally challenged young man who has been isolated from society due to a childhood injury. When Robbie accidentally stumbles upon a Czech cold war plot during a visit to Greece, he becomes unwittingly embroiled in a dangerous and clandestine operation. The novel explores Robbie's unlikely role as a hero and his efforts to navigate the complexities of the conspiracy he has uncovered.

Dennis Wheatley, a prolific British writer, was renowned for his thrillers and occult novels. While Mayhem in Greece diverges from his more supernatural-themed works, it showcases Wheatley's ability to create suspenseful narratives with unique characters.

If you are a fan of Dennis Wheatley novels this is an interesting one to add to your collection slightly different from his historical and horror novels with the anti-hero Robbie, it makes a refreshing and exciting read with topics such as espionage and the Cold War of course, typical of the 20th century era, a hint of road trip, rites of passage and a smattering of romance to boot!

Overall an interesting and  attractive addition to a nostalgic shelf of vintage books if you are a fan Dennis Wheatley's gripping vintage thrillers.

Kittys Notes & Book Snippet

" In Mayhem in Greece, Mr Wheatley has produced a new type of hero in Robbie Grenn, a charming but mentally retarded young man who, owing to an injury when young, has never been to school, and is regarded by his family as almost a moron.

Espionage would hardly seem to be his metier, yet to prove that he is as good as other men Robbie takes up the challenge that lands him in peril of his life many times.

Interwoven with his adventure is the story of his relationship with the lovely Stephanie, the first girl with whom the chronically shy young man has ever had more than a passing acquaintance. "

Despite some of the unavoidably outdated language this is an interesting exploration of 'not your usual hero' in this vintage thriller and although not Wheatley's greatest - such as his other Black Magic, Gregory Sallust and Roger Brook series of books, still a highly enjoyable romp.

Other highly popular series by the Dennis Wheatley were the:

•The Black Magic Series
•The Roger Brook Series
•The Gregory Sallust Series
•The Duke de Richleau Series
•The Molly Fountain Series
•The Julian Day Series
•The Lost World Series

Well worth a read if you love Dennis Wheatley books and these classic 20th century thriller novels.
