The Compleat Angler by Izaak Walton vintage book Everyman's Hardback.

Wartime Edition 1944 of this Classic piece of Literature written in 1653 about the art of Angling as the 'Contemplative Man's Recreation. Great introduction by Andrew Lang filling in on the history of this classic tome and notes about the interesting life of Izaak Walton.

This book makes fascinating reading for any keen angler and a novel book lover's gift for the Fishing fanatic in your life.

The book was published in the Wartime Years of the 2nd World War in 1944 and bears the official stamp inside stating that:

'The Paper and the Binding of this Book Confirm to the Authorized Economy Standards'.

Along with the Imperial lion on a book mark that states:

'Book Production War Economy Standard'.

An interesting piece of history in itself  - to think that this lovely old book was produced in the 2nd World War when a book would have been a true luxury due to severe wartime shortages and restrictions on production. Scarce to find one of these old 1940's 'Everyman's Library' books even with it's original dust jacket.

The book is just the right size to slip in a waxed jacket pocket for a day on the Riverbank! Just perfect for that person in your life who loves Fishing. This classic, book lover's gift would gain the pride of place on any keen angler's Bookshelf.

Kittys Reader Notes & Book Snippet

This characterful vintage book on the art of fishing is a fabulous little survivor and piece of social history from those traumatic war time years with the wartime lion stamps. The paper is lovely and clean just tanned with age and has an almost 'rag paper' feel to it.

A very pleasing little copy of this classic text on the Gentleman's sport of Fishing. Or as Izaak Walton described it, 'The Comtemplative Man's Recreation'.

ILLUSTRATED: No.
