Kittys Reader Notes & Book Excerpt

Kitty's Notes:

I grew up with these wonderful old romance novels by Georgette Heyer they are innocent and clean yet still manage to thrill and delight with an exciting old love story based in the enchanting era of Regency England.

Georgette creates some of the best loved male characters of historical romance since the famous Mr Darcy wooed our hearts. In fact her rich characterisation makes us feel as if we know the male characters much better than many other romance writers of the 1960's era and earlier who tended to focus on the female characters feelings and emotions.

I know I fell in love with everyone of her dashing rakish and roué heros and the women who win their hearts.

Extracts from this book "The Nonesuch":

"Old Joseph Calver's will is a surprise to all his relations and a dissappointment to most of them...the news arrives that Sir Waldo Hawkridge is coming north to inspect his inheritance, the late Mr Calver's decaying residence Broom Hill. For Sir Waldo is the most discussed man in London Society, wealthy, handsome, still a bachelor, the acknowledged leader of the Corinthian set and known as the Nonesuch for his athletic prowess..."

"She may set her cap at him—in fact, I'm tolerably certain that she will, just to show us all that she can bring any man to his knees !—and he might flirt with her, perhaps. But as for doing her any harm—no, no, there can't be the least cause for you to be in a worry! Only consider, dear ma'am ! She's not a little serving-maid with no one at her back to protect her !" "No," agreed Mrs Underhill doubtfully. "That's true enough, but—he might want to marry her, and a pretty piece of business that would be !" "If he shows any such disposition," said Miss Trent, laughter warming her eyes, "we must take care to remind her that he is not a member of the peerage!'
